The tool asks for All India Rank and converts it, because category ranks are derived from the All India Rank using the share of the candidate pool in that category.
JEE Main College Predictor (NIT, IIIT, GFTI)
Your rank plus your category plus your home state equals a completely different college list. This tool applies all three, then sorts your options into Safe, Target, Reach and Dream so you can build a real preference order.
Your category rank decides your list, not your All India Rank
For NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, admission is through JoSAA and the comparison that matters is your category rank against that institute-branch closing rank for that quota. A General candidate with rank 8,000 is comparing against the Open closing rank. An OBC-NCL candidate with the same All India Rank is usually comparing against a much looser OBC-NCL closing rank, because OBC-NCL ranks are category ranks. Add home-state quota and female-only seats and the same rank can mean a top-five NIT or none at all. This tool computes the effective closing rank for your exact combination and bands the result.
How to use this tool
If you would genuinely take a good IIIT CSE over a lower NIT Mechanical, then tick both. Filtering to NITs only is how students end up with a short list that has no backups.
Home-state quota applies only to NITs in that state, and it is the single biggest lever for a mid-rank candidate. Pick the state whose eligibility certificate you actually hold.
CSE and ECE close far earlier than Mechanical and Civil. If you are open to multiple branches, run the tool twice and compare the two lists side by side.
Safe and Target go into the upper half of your JoSAA preference list. One or two Dream choices can sit at the very top. Reach options are where most seat upgrades actually happen.
How to read the numbers honestly
Which year are these cut-offs from
The published anchor rows are Round-6, gender-neutral, other-state closing ranks. Round 6 is the most competitive round, so a mid-round allotment can close later than the number shown.
Every row is labelled
Rows marked official come from published JoSAA closing-rank data. Rows marked derived are scaled from those anchors using documented category and quota multipliers, and are shown so that mid and lower ranked candidates also get a usable list.
Home state changes everything
Home-state quota typically closes substantially later than other-state quota. If you hold a state's eligibility, your realistic list is dramatically better than the raw other-state number suggests.
What to do next
Build the preference order next: take this list into the JoSAA Choice Simulator to sort it into an actual fillable sequence.
Compare two realistic options: use College Comparisons to weigh branch versus campus before you lock a top preference.
Do not stop at one list: keep JoSAA counselling, CSAB special rounds and your state counselling running in parallel.
JEE Main College Predictor (NIT, IIIT, GFTI) — FAQs
What rank is needed for NIT CSE in 2026?
In recent JoSAA rounds, General other-state CSE closed near the low four figures at the top NITs and around 5,000 to 13,000 at mid and lower NITs. Home-state quota and category relax this considerably.
Is this the same as the official JoSAA predictor?
No. JoSAA itself does not run a public predictor. This tool applies published closing ranks to your rank, category and quota, and every number it shows is a planning estimate that must be verified against the official opening and closing rank data.
Should I use All India Rank or category rank?
Use the All India Rank as the input, then let the tool convert to a category rank. When you compare against a category-wise closing rank table anywhere else, always compare category rank to category rank.
Does home state quota apply to IIITs?
No. IIITs and GFTIs allot seats on an all-India basis, so home-state quota does not change their closing ranks. It applies to NITs and to some other centrally funded institutes.
How accurate is a college predictor?
It is accurate as a banding tool and unreliable as a promise. Cut-offs move with the seat matrix, the number of applicants, paper difficulty and branch demand, so treat every closing rank as a trend rather than a fixed bar.
What if my rank gets me nothing in JoSAA?
That is exactly what the Dream and Reach bands are for, plus CSAB special rounds for leftover seats, state counselling where your quota is far better, and parallel exams as a genuine backup rather than an afterthought.
