JEE Main 2027 Photo and Signature Size

The exact file sizes and formats NTA asks for, the live photo step, and the mistakes that cause a photograph mismatch notice.

Last updated: October 29, 2026

Direct answer

Photo: JPG, 10–200 kB. Signature: JPG, 10–100 kB. Class 10 certificate: PDF, 50–300 kB.

You also take a live photo through your webcam during the form, or by scanning a QR code with your phone. Both photos need a white background, good light and about 80% of your face visible, with ears showing and no mask.

New step

How the live photo works

  • Switch on the laptop camera or connect a webcam before you open the form.
  • No webcam? The form shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone and take the photo there.
  • Sit facing a plain white wall with light in front of you, not behind you.
  • Remove the mask and cap. Keep both ears visible. Look straight at the camera.
Avoid rejection

Photo checklist

  • Recent photo that matches how you look now. NTA can compare it with your Aadhaar photo.
  • White background, colour photo, face covering about 80% of the frame.
  • No selfie filters, no dark glasses, no shadow on the face.
  • Your own photo and signature only. Using someone else's is treated as unfair means.
  • Sign on white paper in black or blue ink, then crop close to the signature.
Too big or too small

How to resize the photo to the right kB

If the file is above 200 kB, reduce the image dimensions (for example to about 350 × 450 pixels) and save again as JPG. If it is below 10 kB, the image is too small or too compressed; scan or photograph it again at higher quality. Check the final size in the file properties before uploading.

Common mistakes

Why photos get questioned

  • A photo from Class 8 that does not match your face today.
  • Selfie taken with the phone held low, showing half the face.
  • Yellow light at night making the background look grey.
  • Signature in capital letters in the form but cursive on exam day. Sign the same way every time.

JEE Preparation FAQs

Can I crack JEE in 3 months?

Yes, cracking JEE Main in 3 months is possible if you: (1) Already have Class 11-12 basics clear, (2) Focus only on high-weightage topics (40% of syllabus = 70% questions), (3) Solve 50+ PYQs daily, (4) Take 3-4 full mocks per week. JEE Advanced in 3 months is much harder but not impossible for focused students.

Is NCERT enough for JEE Main?

NCERT is sufficient for 60-70% of JEE Main Chemistry and 40-50% of Physics. For Maths, NCERT builds concepts but you need additional problem practice. For 150+ marks, supplement NCERT with coaching modules or HC Verma/DC Pandey for Physics, and any standard JEE book for Maths problems.

How many hours should I study for JEE?

Quality matters more than quantity. 4-6 focused hours daily for 18+ months can crack JEE Main with 150+ marks. For JEE Advanced, 6-8 hours is typical. Most toppers report 6-10 hours of actual productive study. Beyond 10 hours, diminishing returns set in. Consistency over months beats occasional 12-hour days.

Can average students crack JEE?

Absolutely. JEE tests preparation, not innate intelligence. Many IITians were average students in school. Keys to success: (1) Start early (Class 11), (2) Be consistent (small daily effort), (3) Focus on understanding over memorization, (4) Learn from mistakes through error analysis. Your school grades do not predict JEE success.

How to start JEE preparation from zero?

Start with: (1) NCERT for all three subjects to build foundation, (2) One coaching module or standard book per subject, (3) Topic-wise PYQs from Day 1, (4) Weekly revision schedule. First 3 months focus only on Class 11 basics. Join a test series by month 4. Avoid YouTube rabbit holes - stick to one source per subject.
