What 80 percentile means for you depends a lot on your category and home state. Here is an honest picture.

These are estimates based on recent sessions and about 13–14 lakh candidates; your shift and the total number of candidates change them. This is usually below the General qualifying cutoff for JEE Advanced, but above the cutoffs for OBC-NCL (79.43 in 2025), SC and ST.
Rough formula: rank ≈ (100 − percentile) ÷ 100 × total candidates. With about 13.5 lakh candidates, 80 percentile gives about 2.7 lakh as the Common Rank. Your category rank is much better than your Common Rank if you are OBC-NCL, EWS, SC or ST.
