Eligibility

JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility Criteria

All candidates must simultaneously fulfil each and every one of the following criteria to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2026. Source: jeeadv.ac.in/eligibility

Criterion A1 — Performance in JEE (Main) 2026

Candidates should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE (Main) 2026.

The total number of candidates may be slightly more than 2,50,000 due to tie-breaking. The percentages of various categories are: 10% for GEN-EWS, 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, and the remaining 40.5% is OPEN for all. Within each category, 5% horizontal reservation for PwD candidates.

Criterion A2 — Age Limit

Candidates should be born on or after October 1, 2001. Age relaxation of 5 years is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e., these candidates should be born on or after October 1, 1996.

Criterion A3 — Number of Attempts

A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.

Criterion A4 — Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) Examination

A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2026.

Criterion A5 — Earlier Admission to IITs

A candidate should NOT have been admitted to an IIT earlier. Candidates who accepted admission at any IIT (by paying fees at the time of admission or by reporting at the admission centre) are NOT eligible.

Registration Process

  1. Qualify JEE Main 2026: Be among the top 2,50,000 candidates in B.E./B.Tech. paper
  2. Register Online: Visit jeeadv.ac.in from April 23 to May 2, 2026
  3. Pay Fee: Last date for fee payment is May 4, 2026 (23:59 IST)
  4. Download Admit Card: Available from May 11 to May 17, 2026

I appeared for Class XII for the first time in 2025. Am I eligible for JEE Advanced 2026?

YES. You are eligible, provided you also satisfy all other eligibility criteria (JEE Main rank, age limit, number of attempts, and no prior IIT admission). Check the Information Brochure for full details.

I gave Class XII in 2024 and appeared for JEE Advanced in both 2024 and 2025. Can I write JEE Advanced 2026?

NO. You have already used both your consecutive attempts (2024 and 2025). JEE Advanced allows a maximum of two attempts in two consecutive years only.

I gave Class XII in 2024, skipped JEE Advanced 2024, but appeared in 2025. Am I eligible for 2026?

NO. Your two consecutive years were 2024 and 2025. Even if you skipped one year, the eligibility window has closed.

How many times can I attempt JEE Advanced?

A maximum of two times in two consecutive years. For example, if your first eligible year is 2025, you can attempt in 2025 and 2026 only.

What is the age limit for JEE Advanced 2026?

You must be born on or after October 1, 2001. SC, ST, and PwD candidates get 5 years of relaxation (born on or after October 1, 1996).

I am an OBC-NCL candidate but my caste is only in the state OBC list, not the central list. Do I get OBC reservation?

NO. For JEE Advanced, OBC-NCL reservation is based on the central list of OBCs maintained by NCBC (ncbc.nic.in). State OBC lists are not applicable.

Are foreign nationals eligible for JEE Advanced 2026?

YES. Foreign National candidates and OCI/PIO (F) candidates can register directly from April 6 to May 2, 2026. They do NOT need to qualify JEE Main. Details at jeeadv.ac.in/foreign.

I have an OCI/PIO card obtained after March 4, 2021. Do I need JEE Main to register?

YES. OCI/PIO cardholders who obtained their card after March 4, 2021 must appear in and qualify JEE Main 2026 to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026.

Where can I download the Information Brochure for JEE Advanced 2026?

What happens if I use unfair means during the exam?

Candidates found using unfair means face disqualification, potential ban from future JEE Advanced exams, and legal action as per the rules in the Information Brochure.

Will IISc Bengaluru accept JEE Advanced 2026 ranks?

YES. From 2026, admission to BTech programmes at IISc Bengaluru will be made through JoSAA 2026 using JEE Advanced 2026 ranks.

Is the JEE Advanced 2026 exam pattern different from previous years?

NO. The examination pattern for 2026 remains consistent with previous JEE Advanced exams. Full details are in the Information Brochure.

What is AAT and who should register for it?

The Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) is for candidates who want admission to B.Arch. programs at IITs. Only JEE Advanced qualified candidates can register. AAT 2026 was held on June 4, 2026 (9 AM–12 PM). Results are on the JoSAA Portal.

Do I need to register on JoSAA even if I only want an IIT seat?

YES. Registering and filling choices on JoSAA is mandatory for all qualified candidates to obtain a seat in any IIT. No separate IIT admission process exists.

What does Freeze/Float/Slide mean in JoSAA?

Freeze: You accept the current seat and do not want upgrades. Float: You accept the current seat but want to be considered for a better preference. Slide: You accept the current seat but want upgrades only within the same institute. Learn more in our Freeze/Float/Slide guide.

Can PwD candidates with less than 40% disability get a scribe?

YES. PwD candidates and those with less than 40% disability who have difficulty in writing can choose a scribe. Scribe selection must happen by May 16, 2026 (the day before the exam).

Are there supernumerary seats for sports or fine arts at IITs?

YES. Some IITs offer supernumerary seats under Sports Excellence Admission (SEA) and Fine Arts & Culture Excellence (FACE). JEE Advanced qualification is required.
