How Many Years of PYQs to Target
JEE Main

JEE Advanced

Phase 2 — Full paper PYQs (3 months before exam)

- Compare: Performance across multiple years to spot patterns.
Phase 3 — Targeted re-do (last 4 weeks)
Go back to questions you got WRONG in Phases 1 and 2.

Which concept was tested?
Not "electrostatics" — "Capacitors in parallel with a dielectric slab inserted partially." Specificity reveals weak sub-topics.
Which trick was needed?
Many JEE questions have a shortcut solvable in 1 minute. Finding that shortcut is worth 10 similar problems of practice.
What assumption did the question make?
"Assume air resistance is negligible" — that phrase changes the entire approach. PYQs teach you to read for hidden assumptions.
What if one variable changed?
Mental exercise: "What if the dielectric constant was 2x higher?" Students who mentally vary PYQ parameters understand concepts deeply.
Did this type appear in another year?
Keep a mental catalog. "Projectile on inclined plane" appeared in 2019, 2021, 2024. Third repetition = high-priority concept type.

Trap 1: Memorizing solutions without understanding
