JEE PYQ Chapter-Wise Filter

Which chapters actually repeat? Filter the previous-year question bank by subject, chapter and year, see the weightage each chapter carries, and stop guessing where your revision hours should go.

Direct answer

A few chapters carry most of the paper, every single year

JEE papers are not evenly distributed across the syllabus. In Physics, a small set of mechanics, electrodynamics and modern physics chapters repeatedly accounts for the majority of the marks. Chemistry leans heavily on physical chemistry calculations and a handful of organic reaction families. Mathematics rewards calculus, coordinate geometry and algebra consistently. The chapters at the top of this table are the ones where a marginal hour of revision historically returns the most marks, which makes them the correct first target when time is short.

Step by step

How to use this tool

1. Filter by subject first

Pick Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics. Each subject has a different repeated-chapter profile, so a single combined list hides the pattern you are looking for.

Step 1
2. Sort by weightage, then by your own weakness

The highest-weightage chapter is not always your first task. If a top chapter is already strong, the right move is the next chapter down that you are weak in.

Step 2
3. Set a year range

Recent years reflect the current paper style. A ten-year window shows genuine repetition, while a two-year window shows what the examiner is currently favouring. Use both.

Step 3
4. Search a chapter by name

If you are revising a specific chapter tonight, search it directly to see how often it has been asked and in what form.

Step 4
5. Push the result into your revision plan

Take the top chapters into the Chapter Priority Calculator so weightage is combined with weakness and time cost, not used alone.

How to read the numbers honestly

Method

Grouped by chapter, not by paper

Questions are grouped by the chapter they test rather than by the year they appeared, because the same concept is frequently asked with different framing.

Interpretation

Weightage is a prior, not a guarantee

A high-weightage chapter can still be lightly tested in a given year, and a low-weightage chapter can carry a surprising question. Weightage tells you where to start, never where to stop.

Coverage

Always read the official syllabus

Chapter grouping follows the standard JEE syllabus structure. For any eligibility or syllabus question, the official brochure and information bulletin are the final authority.

Next move

What to do next

Turn weightage into a plan: send the ranking into the Chapter Priority Calculator to blend it with your own accuracy.

Practise the actual questions: open the question bank for full sets rather than single items.

Track what you have covered: mark chapters off in the Chapter Tracker so revision does not silently skip a top chapter.

Frequently asked questions

JEE PYQ Chapter-Wise Filter — FAQs

Search all FAQs
Which chapters repeat the most in JEE Main?

Across recent papers, the highest-frequency chapters sit in mechanics and electrodynamics for Physics, physical and organic chemistry for Chemistry, and calculus with coordinate geometry for Mathematics. The exact ranking moves slightly each year, which is why a filter is more useful than a fixed list.

Should I study only the high-weightage chapters?

No. High-weightage chapters are where you start, not where you stop. Skipping a low-weightage chapter entirely is how students lose the four or five marks that separate one percentile band from the next.

How many years of PYQs should I solve?

The last five to ten years is the practical sweet spot. Older papers still show genuine repetition, but recent years better reflect the current question style and marking pattern.

Are chapter-wise PYQs enough for revision?

They are excellent for targeted revision and weak-chapter repair. For exam temperament you still need full-length timed papers, because chapter practice never reproduces the pressure of a three-hour paper.

Does this filter cover JEE Advanced as well?

The chapter structure maps closely to the common syllabus. For Advanced-specific multi-correct and numerical patterns, use the dedicated Advanced practice sets alongside this filter.

Is the weightage shown here official?

No. It is derived from previous-year question groupings as a study aid. The official syllabus and information bulletin define what can be asked; weightage only helps you sequence your preparation.
